Cada año, el 16 de agosto, se conmemora una fecha de gran importancia pero a menudo pasada por alto: el Día Internacional del Animal sin Hogar.  Este día fue establecido en 1992 por la Sociedad Internacional de los Derechos de los Animales (ISAR, por sus siglas en inglés) con un objetivo claro y compasivo: llamar la atención sobre la creciente crisis de los animales de compañía abandonados y sin hogar en todo el mundo.
